Nothing beats a bowl of warm delicious oats especially when it’s cold outside. Before I switched my mindset around food you would have never had heard me say that I love oats.
Honestly, I could eat them here or there, say I would eat them anywhere! (lol) Oats are by far my favourite breakfast food.
Oats are a great source of fiber, meaning it takes a long time to digest and keeps you full longer. There is evidence that supports eating oats will help with weight management, reducing blood sugar and insulins. Other benefits of oats include reducing the risk of heart disease, managing cholesterol levels, and blood pressure.
Oats are very versatile, you can top it with fruits – cooked or raw, add nuts, seeds or even nut butter. So you see oats are the base and you can top it any way you want. When I first introduced how I eat oats to my mom, it was hard for her to wrap her head around adding fruits to her oats. I get it some people have their quirks about eating warm fruits. However, there is a variety of toppings you can add to oats, start with what you like and slowly start to experiment.
Banana Blueberry O-mighty

Total time: 21 mins
Old Fashioned Rolled Oats 1 cup
Water 3 cup
Organic Honey 1 tbsp
Cinnamon 1 tbsp
Banana 1 medium
1 serving of Toppings
Blueberries ½ cup
Sunflower seed 1 tbsp
Hemp seed 1 tbsp
Pour 3 cups of water into a medium size pot on high to boil
In a separate bowl smash banana
Gradually stir in 1 cup of oats and reduce heat to simmer
Add 1 tbsp of honey
Add 1 tbsp of cinnamon
Gradually stir in smash bananas
Stir occasionally, let pot simmer for a total of 14 to 16 minutes
Serve with toppings

*Omit banana for another fruit such as apples or no fruits at all
*Substitute seeds for any other seeds you have on hand
*Substitute almonds for another nut or nut free topping
*If needed portion out leftovers into glass containers, store in fridge and consume within 3 to 4 days
*Add a dash of almond milk or another non-dairy milk for added moisture when reheating leftovers
